Responsible retailers in Leicestershire will be awarded safety stickers in recognition of the lengths they go to in order to avoid selling alcohol to underage children.

According to the Leicester Mercury, off-licences in an area of Leicester will be scored on how well they manage alcohol sales as part of the Best Off Green scheme.

And those who lead the way in always refusing underage sales will display green safety stickers on their shop-fronts so the public know they are fully against selling booze to young people.

Shops under investigation for breaking the law will have an amber sign, while those who have seen their licenses revoked for regularly serving underage drinkers will have to sport red signs.

"The Best Off Green sticker scheme will send a strong message to people in the Hinckley Road and Narborough Road areas about which off-licenses are taking their responsibilities seriously," Sarah Russell, Leicester City Council cabinet member for public protection, told the newspaper.

"There is a clear link between under-age drinking and anti-social behaviour."

If the scheme is successful it will be extended across the region.ADNFCR-2754-ID-800083429-ADNFCR

Safety stickers are a type of safety sign printed on to a thin vinyl film which comes with a self adhesive backing. They are best used when a warning, mandatory, or prohibition message needs to be applied to a smooth, flat clean surface.

Where safety signs need to mounted on rough or uneven surfaces, it's better to use a sign printed onto a semi-rigid or rigid plastic material - normally PVC.
