This inspiring message of Srila Prabhupada was glorified multifold on the evening of 25th September as devotees of ISKCON Bangalore participated in the 24 Hours Non Stop Harinam Sankirtan'. Hundreds of devotees reaped the transcendental benefits of chanting the Hare Krishna maha-mantra: Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.
Devotees paid obeisances to Sri Sri Gaura Nitai and Srila Prabhupada before they began their 24-hour spiritual pursuit. They also paid their homage to mridanga which provided inspiration to everyone. The spirit of the devotees was undeterred as they continued praising Sri Krishna through the night until next evening. The highlight of the event was the participation of Yugadharma' a rock band of six devotees, whoenthralled the crowd with their compositions of the Hare Krishna Maha-Mantra. Amit Anand, one of the band members expressed that it was one of the biggest experiences of life. He said "It feels great to dedicate my talent in music to the Lord". Everybody who wished to please the Lord with their talent received an opportunity to sing Kirtans.
Akshara Brahma Dasa who played a key role in organizing the event said "Chanting the Lord's name and receiving an opportunity to participate in the event is a dream-come-true for all those who are fond of music". He was one among several others who actively participated in the 24-hour event. "There was no sense of exhaustion at all at the end of 24 hours", he added.
Lord Chaitanya emphasized that the chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra is the easiest means of self-realization. Mantras were only chanted softly until Lord Chaitanya started harinam sankirtan, the loud public and congregational chanting of the maha-mantra accompanied by musical instruments. He also taught the devotees to gracefully dance whie chanting. Once one is enthralled in the dancing and chanting he becomes completely absorbed in the vibrations of the mantra. The mantra then enters his consciousness, purifies his heart and awakens his dormant love for Krishna. This style of chanting Krishna's holy names also allows other beings in the surroundings to benefit from the auspicious effects of the mantra. Srila Prabhupada brought harinam sankirtan to the streets of cities, towns and villages around the world.
