Perhaps the most important role of a mother or a father is to keep themselves and their family healthy and active. I believe this can be very tricky since you don't just have yourself to take care of but you have your family as well. Add to it the stress brought to you by work. What you need basically are simple steps that can serve as your guideline in keeping the whole family healthy.

For some families dinnertime is the only time where all the members of the household can gather and communicate. That is not a bad thing but if you want to keep the transparency in your family, make not only dinnertime but every mealtime as a family time. According to study, families who eat meals together have lower risk for childhood obesity and teenage rebellion problems.

Instead of gathering the guys to watch a movie right after dinner, why not take them outside for a walk in the nearest park? And instead of letting the kids lie around doing nothing on weekends, why not invite them to play physical games like hide and seek, basketball or even just a game of catch? Doing this will get the family active and away from obesity and other diseases.

Encourage the family to have proper sleeping habits. The ideal time for a person to go to bed and sleep is ten o'clock in the evening. This will the body more time to heal and repair itself from damage caused by stress and fatigue. Make it a habit for you and for the kids to get naps in the afternoon too.

Don't deprive yourself of rest. Lack of rest and relaxation will make you cranky and grumpy all the time. For children, perhaps the best way for them to relax is through fun and games. There is a saying that goes, "Too much study and no play makes Jack a dull boy." This is a trustworthy saying so as much as possible give yourself a break from work from time to time.

You must understand that family life should not be a job or an obligation for you; it must be an overflow of love and relationship. Aside from watching your diet and doing your regular exercise, take care of important relationships too, whether with your family, your parents or your friends.
