Certain regions of the country experience extreme changes in temperature between the summer and winter months. South Carolina may not see the same winter conditions as locations farther north, however cold weather will still impact vehicle performance in winter months. Honda of Greenville recommends every car owner who lives in or travels to an area that experiences colder winter months to winterize their vehicle using the following tips.

Schedule a service appointment- Contact your local Greenville Honda dealer to schedule an appointment for a check-up. In doing this, trained technicians can look over operating systems and other areas of your vehicle to ensure everything is in proper working condition and in good condition to lower temperatures.

Check your tires- It doesn't matter how well your car is working if your tires fail during a winter storm. The tires are the only thing between you and the road, therefore they should always be properly inflated as checked for proper thread depth. This improves traction should you encounter wet, icy or snowy road conditions.

Test battery- You can purchase a battery hydrometer at a local parts store to test how well your battery is holding a charge. If your battery is over three years old, it should be tested by a certified automotive repair facility. After three years, car batteries can fail with no warning, which can cause a lot of problems in cold winter weather.

Honda of South Carolina would also like to remind drivers to update their roadside emergency kit to include additional items specific to winter weather. This includes; change of clothes, extra coat and boots, ice scraper and the basic items you usually carry throughout the year.
