subject: Getting New Electric Installed In Kentucky [print this page] Recently we had electric installed at our new home construction site. We hired the work out but here is the basic process we went through.
After calling a local electrician they came out on a Saturday morning and installed a breaker box, a meter, a pole that ran through the roof and connected it all so there were wires hanging out of the top of the pole for the electric company to connect to.
Basically the electrician wired up everything inside. After he was done we had to pay the inspector to come out inspect the work that the electrician did. That took a day for him to arrive and gave everything an approval. Before he left he gave us a sticker that said approved and a receipt. The electric inspector''s sticker and receipt are very, very, very important because our water company wouldn't turn on our water without the sticker and our electric company wouldn't hook up our electric without the approved sticker.
After the inspector left we called the electric company and told them we were ready to have our electric connected. This took weeks of calling Fleming Mason energy and nagging them to come connect our electric. Every time we called they had another excuse. Finally after a month and a half they ran the wires from the telephone pole to the pole on our house that the electrician installed.
After they left we could plug in a light and it turned on. Amazing. That was the process we went through to get electric at our new construction site in Kentucky. You local rules might be different so check with a professional and your local building codes before starting your project and have good luck.
