subject: Think About It! Most People With Six Pack Abs Don't Do A Single Crunch Or Sit-up [print this page]

When it comes to fitness and our ideas of an ideal body, nothing screams "in shape" more than great looking abs. Naturally, we think that in order to have similar looking abs, we have to do tons of stomach exercises. This is so far from the truth that it's not even funny. The truth is, most people with fantastic looking abs don't even worry about doing abdominal exercises like crunches or sit-ups. In order to have a great looking body, we must remove the layer of lard that is covering our bodies so we can reveal the beautiful, toned body beneath. This is not to say that exercises that work your core muscles, like stability ball exercises, are useless. These are very important and should be added to everyone's routine. I'm merely stating that doing abdominal exercises in order to have good looking abs is a complete waste of time. To get great looking abs, you must burn off all the fat, as I said. The fastest way to start melting the fat off of you is start stoking your metabolic fires everyday. Hands down, the best way to do this is to combine cardio-interval training with weight training. What interval training does is forces you to work both your slow and fast twitch muscle fibers, meaning your muscles burn a ton of energy as well as become stronger and leaner. On top of this, you get an after burn effect; you'll continue to burn a lot of calories throughout the rest of the day and well into the next. Coupled with 2-3 days of weight training, your body will become a fat burning inferno. The pounds will keep coming off while you workout only 3-4 days a week. The key term that you must remember throughout this entire process is intensity. If you keep your workouts short and very intense, your body will be forced to compensate by blow torching the fat from your body.
