If you restore the factory settings on your iPod it will bring it back to the condition that it was in when it was new. Your iPod will frequently build up software problems in time which can ultimately prevent it from working. When you restore the original factory settings it will frequently repair any of the problems that you may be having. You can restore your iPod's factory settings by connecting your iPod to your computer and then select it from your iTunes menu.

Click on the button marked restore when a box appears. Then you will then see a progress bar that will allow you to monitor the status of your iPod's restoration. The amount of time it takes for the restoration process depends on the state of your iPod's hard drive and the size of your iPod.
