Citroen have been producing the C3 since 2002, designed by Donato Coco and Jean-Pierre Ploue.

The first generation C3 used the same chassis as the Peugeot 1007 and Peugeot 206 - its cousins from the PSA group. There are notable similarities between the Peugeot 206 and the Citroen C3, the door mirrors are a good example.

Citroen decided to be a bit more adventurous than most of its competitors and released the Citroen C3 Pluriel in Crawley. The C3 Pluriel, which can be configured as a full or partial convertible or a closed car, due to its detachable roof bars and folding fabric roof took the supermini market by storm.

In 2006 the C3 went through a facelift, some of the changes included; the front end featuring a more imposing bumper, wider lower air intake, single air intake slit below the restyled radiator grille and a re-positioned number plate.

Further variants of the Citroen C3 were introduced in 2008, the C3 Picasso, a Mini MPV in competition with the Vauxhall Meriva. The Citroen C3 Picasso was released in the UK in 2009 where it was received very well by young families.

The latest 2009 model features an evolutionary design with a cutting-edge Panoramic Windscreen, similar to that seen on the C4 Picasso and Vauxhall Astra Sport Hatch, the new C3 builds on the curvy design of the previous model.
