subject: Fireproofing & Its Advantages [print this page]

Accidental fire causes major disaster to life and property. Life of thousands of people is at stake if such an accident occurs, and huge losses have to be faced. For protection against fire, fireproofing of the structure is the ideal option that one should opt for. Fireproofing is a measure to provide protection against fire by making the building structures fire retardant so that they are capable enough to withstand high temperature and can easily resist burning. To make a building fireproof or thermally stable, one can go for fiber-based or foam structures, as these materials have the ability to block heat flow, which in turn prevents spreading of fire. The structure can be made fireproof in two ways, either by using the fireproofing material like fiberglass or by using materials such as cellulose that require fire-retardant chemical treatments. Fiberglass, glass wood, cellulose fibers, polymeric material and ceramics are most commonly used material that provides thermal insulation and fireproofing. For fireproofing the place, one can go for any of the insulation forms like Batt Insulation or blown in insulation. Blown in insulation works best for already existing walls; which either had no insulation previously or are in need of extra insulation. It is one of the best ways to insulate the walls, floors and ceilings as it is easy to install and highly effective. With blown in insulation you can make the place thermally compatible by blowing in cellulose, mineral wool or fiber glass into the gaps and cracks of the structures. This provides fireproofing to the place without affecting its interiors. On the other hand, batt insulation involves installing of mineral wool, fiberglass or plastic fibers in the form of continuous blanket into the structures. This type of insulation is generally preferred for places which are undergoing construction that is not affecting the interiors. Fiberglass is one of the most widely used materials for batt insulation as it maintains R value, and does not get eroded with time, hence making it a lifetime product. Fire Proofing is becoming the need for every home and organization these days. There are a number of companies that provide thermal insulation in order to prevent the place from fire accidents. These companies carry out the work in a systematic manner and ensuring complete safety of the place.
