subject: The New Galaxy S From Samsung - An Overview [print this page]

The new Samsung Galaxy S introduces the brand as a real major player in the thriving smartphone market. Boasting one of the best quality screens available anywhere, as well as running on the ever impressive Android operating system, this is one of the handsets to watch in the coming months.

The Galaxy S is the third handset from Samsung to utilise the popular Google Android system. Android remains a firm favourite with phone fans everywhere as you are not subjected to the constraints that others operating systems such as Apples software has in place. Another major plus point is the fact that Android supports flash files, which are a major part of many modern websites. Over the top of this you will find the excellent user interface which is Samsungs own TouchWiz system. Based around the widget system, it offers fully customisable homescreens and some genuinely useful features. The "Friends and Updates" widget collaborates various social networking updates together in on easily manageable place. Looking at the design of the phone, it is easy to draw comparisons with the iPhone. The large screen dominates proceedings and features four buttons at the foot of each screen which enable you to access the phones most common functions including text messaging and also making calls. A physical home button is located beneath the screen. The phone looks really great, and this is helped by the inclusion of active wallpapers. These give the phone a real wow factor. Perhaps one of the most impressive, if understated feature, is the smart unlock system, which accesses certain functions directly by simply sketching a pre determined letter on the screen whilst the phone is locked.

The impressive display featured on the Samsung Galaxy S is one of the major attractions of the handset. The huge 4 inch measurement puts it ahead of many of its competitors in terms of size, whilst the WVGA resolution means it also wins many prizes for the quality of the image displayed. The Super AMOLED technology that the screen uses also plays a part in producing the excellent clarity. The deeper natural black colours and improved viewing angles offer great legibility in sunlight. In addition to this the screen is remarkably thin, allowing the overall depth of the device to measure a slim line 9.9mm. Not content with being one of the slimmest phones available, it is also one of the most lightweight at just 118 grammes. The plastic body helps keep the weight to a minimum, but does make the phone feel slightly cheaper than others available. If you were thinking of changing your phone for an Apple or an HTC, then it is certainly worth considering adding the Samsung Galaxy S to your list thanks to a package which is as close to complete as you are likely to find.

The Samsung Galaxy S and the Nokia Booklet 3G are available now.
