When fridge freezers where first available to the public in the early 1920's they were large style, porcelain covered, metal boxes and their only purpose was to keep things refrigerated. The freezer compartment started to appear late in the 1920's in the form of just an ice cube tray. Frozen food was considered a luxury back in those days and to have a freezer you were considered extremely wealthy. It wasn't until the 1940's that we started to see the more widespread introduction of the combined fridge and freezer.

Fridge freezers have gone through many phases; to begin with fridges were large, very heavy, and frightfully expensive consisting of a fridge and maybe an ice cube tray, but not always.

The 1940's saw the traditional fridge at the bottom and freezer compartment at the top, and it wasn't until 1960's that we saw the fridge at the top and, the freezer at the bottom as we see today.

There are many styles in today's market to choose from, and as technology has moved with the times, today's fridge freezers offer multiple functions from chilled fresh water, and ice cube makers, to frost-free, anti bacterial.

When in 1920, you were considered rich to own a fridge freezer, in the present day fridge freezers are common place in every household in fact, I could not begin to image how many people would operate without one! There are many diverse styles and colours to choose from, and with the various functions that they perform it is literally a case of you get what you pay for, the more functions the more money.

I think the key to finding the fridge freezer that is right for you is to shop around there are so many on offer that you are sure to find a cheap fridge freezer that will be perfect for your needs.
