Growing old is a part of lifeGrowing old is a part of life. No one who keeps living can escape it. Unless an accident or illness cause a person to leave this world prematurely, old age is an inevitable outcome. There are many different ways of looking at being a person of advanced years. Some people seem much older than they are while others do not show or act their age.

Trying to stay young is a way of life for much of the population. As the oldest of the baby boomers have aged and become senior citizens, they have been more interested in hanging on to youth than most in past generations. They exercise more and take care of their bodies as no generation before them. They try to eat healthier and are interested in food supplements to increase their quality of life. They have made a huge market for these industries in health and wellness.

There is no way to stop the advancing years. Time moves on and waits for no one. However, it is possible to feel younger than you actually are. Health is a big factor in how a person feels. If old age has brought with it the frailties and health concerns of many years, it may be difficult to feel younger than your actual age. If you are blessed with relatively good health, there is no reason not to feel good as you try to stay younger than your years.

When someone says that you are only as old as you feel, that may not be true as a person advances in age. It becomes hard not to feel the years weigh on you as the body starts to slow down and even disintegrate in some ways. You undoubtedly may start to feel those years which may have come all too quickly.

Some say that surrounding oneself with those in a younger generation helps a person to stay young. Indeed, young people with the vitality of youth are enjoyable to be around. Their thoughts and views can bring energy and interest into the lives of older people. If a young person is willing to spend time with older people, they can bless the lives of senior citizens.

Trying to stay young includes keeping your mind active. Doing crossword puzzles and playing games which exercise the mind have been shown to be beneficial in staving off dementia and memory loss. Reading the newspaper and being interested in current events helps the elderly to enjoy life enough to feel younger than their years.

Ways to stay young include:

Keep your mind active and interested in outside affairs

Go out to dinner and travel if possible

Do something for others such as service

Be interested in the activities of family and friends

Take care of yourself and don't feel sorry for yourself

Staying as young as possible has its advantages as it makes life more enjoyable. Don't feel bad to be the age you are. Just make the best of it.
