subject: Introducing the BlackBerry® PlayBook [print this page]

BlackBerry smartphone makers Research In Motion (RIM) have unveiled their brand new tablet device, the BlackBerry PlayBook, competing with Apple's (very popular) iPad and the newly released Samsung Galaxy Tab.

playbook

With business users in mind, the PlayBook offers the enterprise features as found on their smartphone range. The PlayBook offers users users the full enterprise compatibility they would expect from a BlackBerry device, and a whole lot more. With a large high-resolution multitouch screen, real multitasking capabilities, Adobe Flash (which the iPad has been criticised for not sporting), HD video (with a built-in HDMI port) and other multimedia features, all on a brand new touchscreen user interface, it has fantastic potential to take the business world by storm.

Also, with such high-performance specs, we expect that RIM will be investing more into their third-party application market, opening the doors to more apps such as productivity tools, books, magazines and, of course, games. Competitor Apple has reported record profits from their iPhone/iPad App Store, recently celebrating over two billion app downloads, and it appears that RIM may be hoping to take a bite out of the market.

Here at Veecom, we are really excited about this product. While there have been a few newcomers to the tablet market, the PlayBook is the first to show a real focus towards business users, integrating their established enterprise capabilties into the device.
