If you have decided on adding a new Golden Retriever to your home, you will need to ensure that you have the right supplies on hand when you bring them home. There are some specific things that you should have on hand before you bring your new family member home for the first time.

You should have a small crate at home so you can provide them with a safe place that they can feel secure. They will need to adjust to their new surroundings and the sights and sounds of the new home. When you have a small crate that they can retreat to when they need to it will help them in the adjustment process.

The crate can also be useful as you begin to toilet train your new puppy.

You should also have separate bowls for the Golden Retriever to drink and eat out of. There are many different types of feeding bowls available so take your time and decide which type will fit best into your home life.

If you have a fenced yard and the dog will be spending time outdoors then you may want to purchase a water bowl to put in the back yard as well. Golden Retrievers do best when they are surrounded by their family but when they spend time outdoors they will need to have water available to them.

Be sure to purchase a leash and collar for your new pet. The size for the collar will need to be adjusted as the puppy grows. Because Golden Retrievers need to be exercised daily in order to relieve some of their energies, having a leash and collar may be a very important supply that you will absolutely need.

Taking them on long walks with you will soon become a great way to pass time and to show off this beautiful dog.

You should keep some grooming tools on hand as well. You will need some nail cutters and brushes so you can maintain their nails and their coats at your own home. Golden Retrievers are known as average shedders so keeping them brushed, focusing on the under coat, will prevent the fur from becoming matted and unmanageable.

One very useful supply that you should stock up on is chew toys. Chew toys will help to build up their jaws and will sharpen and clean their teeth. While these are great benefits of having chew toys on hand, keeping your furniture from being chewed is the best benefit of them all.

It is much less expensive to purchase a few chew toys and chew bones then it is to replace a couch or love seat.

These are some of the most basic supplies that you will need to purchase to help your new family member be strong and healthy in your home. Golden Retrievers are great dogs and they adjust easily to a new home. When you have the necessary supplies you can make their adjustment that much easier.
