subject: Why A Hog Roast Could Be The Ideal Choice For Your Function [print this page]

A hog roast has long been served as food for several functions around the world. In several cultures, they have been used as centrepieces to gatherings, in the same way other cultures have turkey to celebrate Thanksgiving.

In the United Kingdom, preparing a hog roast for a function is becoming more and more popular. But people usually forget that before turkey or chicken even became symbolic, the old world had already come to associate hog roasts for festivities. In fact, the Medieval Age was all about the spit roast. These roasts are simple, delectable, and mouth-watering. They look succulent with their shining, crunchy skin and rich, roasted, brown colour. Truly, images of the past depict the roast with a lot of merry-making, with matching free flowing ale and lively music.

Here are some reasons why you should prepare a hog roast for your function:

Inexpensive food

For one thing, this type of roast has become more popular because it is not hard to maintain. But this does not eliminate the fact that it has the potential to feed a whole army of hungry people. A whole roast could provide food for up to one hundred and twenty people. A function with a full sized roast would need at least fifty people in attendance. For parties with an attendance less than fifty, a smaller alternative may be opted for. People can decide on having a smaller roast or looking for another item to serve, like a lamb.

Easy to prepare

Preparing the meal itself is not a bit difficult. For a spit-roasted pig, the number one rule is to keep the pork at least twelve inches away from the burning coal. This would avoid the incineration of the hog and the charring of the meat. Conveniently, a lot of spit roasts come with a setting that easily sets the meat twelve inches away from the heat. So there is no point in worrying about the roast being ruined.

Set and wait

The heat being used in a spit roast must be constant as the hog turns around. The roast should be all cooked in about five hours. However seven hours are spent in the whole preparation because people need to consider the time needed in carving the hog. But that is the easy thing about having the pork roast. Only a relatively short time of setting is needed before the meat is set on the flame.

Flavourful options

Just like all food items, there are just as many possibilities in pork roast for marinating and the like. You can be inventive when it comes to the use of marinade and spices to put into the roast. Additionally, you can also concoct your own sauce. You can have barbecue, sweet and sour, chilli garlic, or just about any yummy sauce you can think of, and you can be assured that your guests will love it.

With all these reasons, who could resist it?
