With winter around the corner, Consumer Reports evaluated 14 popular portable heaters as reported in a recent 2010 article. The evaluation took into account many factors, including the performance of the unit, safety features, size/weight , ability to control room temperature, and ease of use. After months of testing in a climate-controlled chamber, the product testers created a list of recommended models that, based on their expert evaluation, deserve special recognition.

The Vornado TVH500, which earned a 78 on a scale of 100, took the top spot in the Electric Fan-Forced Convection category. The experts at Consumer Reports offered the following opinion of the TVH500, "While not exactly cheap, the Vornado offers the best combination of performance and features in this category. It's also relatively light and quiet for a fan-equipped heater and was best at temperature control." The TVH500 rated "Very good" on safety, noise and ease of use, and "Excellent" on temperature control.

The TVH500's top rated performance can be credited to the advanced product engineering and design standards maintained by Vornado. Not to be confused with a "space heater" - the TVH500 is a "whole room heater" that circulates heat throughout the room using air circulation called Vortex Action. The "excellent" temperature control rating by Consumer Reports attests to Vornado's efficient digital temperature control systems that are designed to quickly reach, and maintain optimum room temperature. The TVH500's highly rated safety features include a tip-over protection switch, automatic shutoff, and a durable all-metal case that remains cool to the touch, even during peak operation.

Standing a mere 11.5" tall and weighing only 12 pounds, the TVH500 is simple to transport from room to room as desired. Adjusting the temperature of the room is simple with the included remote or on board digital LCD controls. The TVH500 is so effective at controlling the temperature of the room you are in, you can turn your whole house thermostat down several degrees- resulting in seasonal savings of $140 or more.
