subject: What is a record pool? [print this page] A record pool is a membership base club that consists of a group of DJ's. The record pool is ran by a director, who is usually a promoter and or DJ. And memberships can include Club DJs, Radio DJs, Mix CDs DJ's and Producers, etc.
The record pool receives its promotional music and materials from major and independent record companies. And the record pool Directors distributes the promotional materials to the member DJs and promoters.
The DJ's pay a monthly membership fee to be member in the pool, and have to submit a feedback sheet a few times each month, back to the record pool director. This feedback sheet is use by the DJ's, to rate the music given to them (DJ's).
The DJ's rate the music they spin in clubs and at parties. The rate is base on how people (the crowd-fans) respond to the music or each song they are spinning. And these feedback sheets are tallied up by the Director and sent back the record labels promotions department.
Since the evolution of the mp3, there are more and more digital record pool's popping up online. What this means is, record pools do not have to send at heavy boxes of vinyl records anymore. DJs can now carry music on laptops and hard drives. Do not limited yourself, be very creative and use all resources available to musicians. Stay tuned until the update. Peace!
