Adobe Soundbooth CS5 is the sound editing software offered by Adobe, in their Creative Suite 5. It should be the replacement of Adobe Audition , but even though it is a lot simpler to use (since simplicity was one of the main focuses of Creative Suite 5), it doesn't feel like a digital audio workstation (DAW).
For video editor's, the audio cleaning abilities are easier to use, so this turn towards simplicity offers them more of what they wanted and less of what they didn't. So this product doesn't offer a lot of new stuff, just some usability tweaks.
In this new version, the usage of multiple tracks is a lot easier. There's also a resizing ability that will facilitate working with many audio layers. This is done really easy, by grabbing the margin between tracks and dragging it up or down (this action will contract or expand the height of audio tracks). Another new command is the Split Clip command that will allow to cut an audio file in two at the timeline marker.
One of the most welcome enhancement is the expanded library of sound effects and customizable scores available via Resource Central. It offers over 9,000 sound effects and 100 customizable scores that are free to download and royalty-free to use. Once downloaded, they can be easily dragged and dropped straight from Resource Central, they can be stretched or modified to fit any duration.
The scores include various parameters that can be edited globally in Basic Editing mode, or finely adjusted in Keyframe Editing mode. The Soundbooth ASND files can be directly imported into Premiere Pro CS5, so that soundtracks can be tested with visual components. and then loaded back into Soundbooth for further adjustments.
