subject: Learning First Aid Can Make Your Workplace A Safer Place [print this page]

In a workplace, the safety of the employees should always be a priority. Keeping a workplace safe for employees is the responsibility of the employer. Therefore, employers should make sure that their employees are prepared to respond to different emergency cases.

Workplaces have different natures depending on their industry and the kind of work they require. Some workplaces like factories and construction sites may involve working near or around harmful substances and heavy machines. Others, such as airports, malls, and government offices, involve direct contact with the public. Such workplaces require comprehensive safety procedures to be in place in case accidents happen. Nevertheless, whatever the workplaces nature, knowing first aid procedures is imperative for all employees.

While its a good thing for a company to hire health professionals who can administer first aid, it would still be better if all employees knew how to do it. The added knowledge will also be beneficial to them because they can use it in whatever emergency situation they may encounter. It would be helpful if companies would ask their workers to undergo trainings on the proper first aid procedures.

It is important to know how to do common procedures like Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for first aid. Regulation 1101 of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board requires all companies to provide the workplace with first aid rooms complete with equipment. This is one way of assuring their employees that they are being taken care of and that their safety is a priority.

Inviting a first aid instructor to teach new employees how to deal with various emergency situations would be good for companies as well. This way, they would be able to conduct orientations for their workers. Doing this can even encourage them to take first aid courses.

There are a lot of training centers that provide first aid training. Toronto is a place where most people are trying to make a difference in their workplace by implementing safety regulations and undergoing first aid trainings. Toronto has training centers that conduct first aid orientations and offer courses to inform and educate people of proper emergency precautions and life-saving procedures.
