subject: Some Facts On Hearing Aids Types [print this page]

Hearing aid types come in all shapes and sizes, but they all truly have their own little niche. Totally different designs will be more useful depending upon the age of the wearer and the importance of their actual disability. Of course, there is also the price difference that is related to a number of the more technologically advanced hearing aids.

Completely in the canal or CIC hearing aids are hearing aids that are barely detectible. They're of course the tiniest of any of the types, but with that size comes some sacrifices. The amplifiers are not very good and they cost quite a bit because of the convenience of the size. They are usually only meant for folks that have mild hearing issues.

An in the canal or ITC hearing aid is a little bit bigger than the CIC, but is still only meant for mild hearing loss. They are barely visible when worn and are a little easier to handle the CIC devices. These are more reasonably priced and very simple to find online.

The biggest of these types of devices is named the ITE or in the ear hearing aids. They are noticeable, but are convenient for many adults to wear. The bigger size also means that they have better amplification and are the most effective of this type for those who have significant hearing loss. They are much easier to handle and if this style is going to be used by a child, this could be the one.

Behind the ear or BTE devices are those that several people are familiar with. Whereas they're much larger, they are conjointly capable of much better amplification than any of the other devices. These hearing aids are the style that is recommended for children because of the ease of wear and less probability of them being randomly placed and lost.

For a child, the last style of device should be the type that's worn. For an adult, the alternatives have a wider range and will be dictated more by their level of hearing loss. A mild hearing loss will use the CIC and nobody will be the wiser. If there's a significant loss, they are better served to use either the ITE or BTE devices.
