subject: Things To Avoid If You Don't Want To Break Your Iphone [print this page]

Having an iPhone puts you in a very special group and there is an ever growing community of people who also have iPhones and that are dying to show them off. However what it also does is to mean that you have a device that everyone is going to want to have a go on and that you'll constantly have out to use. It's also a device that you might find you use in unusual ways and circumstances and that this causes you to put it at more risk than you would with a 'normal' phone. Some of this is part and parcel of having an iPhone, and to an extent you will want to please the crowd by showing off what it can do and make the most of owning it yourself. However there are certain things that are more dangerous for your phone than others and that you should more carefully aim to avoid. Here we will look at a few of them, and hopefully this can help to ensure that you don't need iPhone repair any time soon.

Getting Steamy: It's a common mistake to let your phone get too wet in the form of steam as often we dont think as steam as being anywhere near as harmful as water. Thus it's common for people to leave their iPhone in the bathroom playing music while they shower, which is still possibly going to create enough steam to stop the phone working making it a fast ticket to the iPhone repair shop.

Aggressive Games: There are a lot of games on the Apple Store that make the most of the accelerometer in the iPhone. This means that the angle you wave the iPhone and the force with which you do so are able to control the game, much like the Nintendo Wii controllers. The problem is when these games aim to emulate chopping or throwing, which can involve the violent swinging of your phone; which can result in your accidentally letting go of the phone and throwing it a long way or fast into a wall or the floor. Games such as golf and karate chop have helped to fund the iPhone repair business in a large way as a result.

Jailbreaking: Jail breaking a device such as an iPhone means that you can open up the hardware to be able to run other operating systems and applications that have not been green lighted by Apple. This gives you more use for your phone in some ways, but it is something to be avoided it it can nullify your agreement with them and mean that you lose all support and all rights to the software updates that come out.

Taking Awkward Photos: The iPhone, great though it is, has no lead for your wrist like a camera, and requires you to tap a specific part of the screen to take photos. This makes it quite impractical for taking shots of yourself and very unsafe for using in concerts or when looking at fantastic views.

Giving Your Phone to Idiots: As mentioned, people will be clamouring to have a go with your phone, and some people will want to go off with it for hours at a time if they find an application or game they like. However this is a dangerous game on your part and it's important that you make sure first that the person is trustworthy and reliable (and not drunk) or you could be heading for a broken iPhone and a friend lost.
