subject: Cell Phones Help Bring People Together [print this page]

Since time immemorial, man has tried to make life easier for him. The wheel was invented to avoid walking long distances. Fire was used to ward off animals and to cook food. The man was always looking for new ways to improve their lives.

The need to communicate with each other over long distances led to the invention of the telephone. This was a very significant development because it allowed people to communicate with each other without leaving their home.

The walkie talkie was developed in order to communicate on the go. This was used around the time of World War 2. This was a medium through which two handsets could communicate with each other over radio signals. But they had to be connected in the same frequency.

The walkie was a useful form of communication. But it was still not convenient as it could only communicate with devices within a certain range. Attempts to improve on this technology eventually led to the invention of the cell phone. When cell phones were first made commercially available, they met with a lot of consumer resistance. Even though the cell phone was portable, it was not convenient as it was bulky and very expensive.

Eventually smaller and more convenient models were introduced. These models range from affordable to very expensive. These days the features available on a cell phone are limitless. They range from a normal voice call to music players, internet access, stock trading and even video conferencing.

In the last two decades cell phones have evolved in a way that no one could have ever imagined. It is not an exaggeration to state that almost everybody on the planet is connected by a cell phone.

It is difficult to imagine a long-distance calls have been very difficult. They were expensive and the reception was so bad that people used to shout on the phone. Now, because of fiber optic networks are fixed long-distance calls less expensive and provides excellent sound quality. Most vendors also offer the ability to make free international calls via the Internet.

Another problem was that of unbelievably high international roaming charges. Incoming calls while on international roaming are also very expensive. Most of the time you would have to buy a SIM card from a local service provider, which would need a lot of paper work.

To resolve this problem, many service providers have now put the SIM in the world. This SIM card allows you to travel more than 160 countries, and there is no need to change the number. It also offers free calls to certain parts of the world.
