There are some people who got the wrong idea thinking that, although ferrets are now domesticated animals, they still have wild blood in them and so their immune systems are stronger compared to other animals. But what you should know is that, even those animals who can take good care of themselves are still at risk of acquiring diseases and these domesticated animals are not in exemption. So if you decided to keep a ferret as a pet, you should be aware of the signs and symptoms of a ferret disease or your pet's life will not last for long.

To prevent a ferret disease, it is highly recommended that you give your pet a vaccine right after buying them or adopting them. As much as possible, take your pet to a veterinarian to see if it has any ferret disease or have it checked to make sure that it is healthy. Your ferrets may be prone to any kind of diseases and some of these can be fatal for them. Here's a list of ferret diseases that your pet can acquire:

Insulinoma this is a ferret disease that may greatly affect its pancreas. This may be due to high insulin levels and low blood sugar levels. Insulinoma is more common but your ferret may also suffer from diabetes. Make sure to take your ferret to a veterinarian if incase its blood sugar drops for a long time. Ferrets that are not more than 2 years old are more prone to Insulinoma so make sure to get the right diagnosis as much as possible.

Aleutian disease this is a ferret disease which is also common to these creatures, since they are also from the weasel family. Aleutian disease is a fatal ferret disease and my even cause your pet's life. Normally, you might see your ferret healthy and will then become weak after a few hours and will be done after a day. Make sure to keep your other ferrets away from the infected one as Aleutian disease is highly contagious.

Intestine blockage you should know that your ferret's intestines are small and since ferrets love to eat meat, it is only wise for you to watch how it eats. Ferrets love to chew on different things such as plastics and rubbers so avoid giving them these things as they might chew on it. They might swallow it and cause a blockage in their intestine. If this happens, your ferret will need to undergo surgery to cure the problem.
