Designate a certain spot or area for your child to place his/her homework, gym clothes and other school related items every single day. This can be in the child's bedroom or somewhere else in your home, as long as they will be walking by it every single day. Make sure you tell your child; if they are not currently working on it or using it, it has to be stored in this same area at all times, so they will not forget it when needed. You can even become creative and have an extra large storage box with the child's name on it or a cubby type area to store these school related items. Whichever works best for you and your child.

Right next to this area should also be a morning and afternoon checklist posted. One that your child can quickly read every morning and afternoon to make sure they are not forgetting anything. If you use an erasable board or chalkboard for this checklist, they can also update it at any time and include reminders for the next day. If you make it part of their everyday routine, it also becomes easier to remember.

Having a planner in school that also lists everything that needs to be done or remembered, including all homework assignments and more is also essential to your child being able to remember to bring home everything that will be needed that night.

No matter what the age, trying to remember everything you need without writing it down is always risky. The busier we get, the more chance there is to forget that one needed item; and forgetting that one item can make the difference in getting good grades or bad grades and having a good day or a bad day.
