subject: Scholarship Lists - Finding the Right Scholarships for You [print this page] Scholarships are a great way of offsetting, if not completely paying for, your education expenses. The only problem you might have in qualifying for most of the scholarships is some of the demographic qulifications. These can be quite a problem, as these scholarships are very focused on who they give it out to. The best way to find the scholarships that are best for you are to consider what catagories you fit into. Just to make sure, none of these catagories are meant to be discriminatory. They are only guidelines to choosing a scholarship you can qualify for.
1) Race
Many scholarships cater to what are called "Minority Races." These races are any except white. If you fit into any of these races, then you will have many more to choose from a scholarship list. If not, you will have to do do some more digging to find a worthwhile scholarship.
2) Age
Most scholarships in a scholarship list will target applicants of age 17-24. This is because, this age group has the highest number of students. There are some that will target any age range, as long as the applicant meets all the other requirements. The best sholarships are aquired while you are still young.
3) Location
Specific locations are another big factor in choosing a scholarship. Most scholarships will target residents of the United States. Though, there are some that will target other countries, and if you are a resident of that country, you have a more rewarding scholarship than most.
4) Gender
Some scholarships will require you to a certain gender. 2 scholarships out there cater to moms and dads. I have a list which offers both. So, you might be able to get a better scholarship if you fall into one of these categories.
5) Income
Certain income ranges will affect how much will be able to get a scholarship for. The more money you make annually, the less you will get. Although, the more money you make, the less of a scholarship you will need. So, if you make a median or lesser income, you will have a better change at getting a good scholarship.
These factors are the major ones to consider. If you make sure you fall under the scholarships requirements, you should have a much easier time of getting approved and reduce wasted effort.
