The biggest majority of students obtain their education not in their home cities, so, they have to find the accommodation. There are two possible ways: students can live on-campus or off-campus. Some students cannot share their room with others. So, they try to find a separate accommodation.
At any rate, there are some disadvantages of off-campus living.
But let us first consider the advantages.
First of all, living off-campus means that you will have more independence. You will not have to follow numerous rules of the dorm. There are no rules for laundry service or for using air-conditioner and electricity.
The off-campus living is for those who like privacy. You will have the accommodation in your disposal. If you do not like sharing your bedroom, kitchen or bathroom with somebody else, than off-campus living is the best choice for you.
And finally, you will learn how to be responsible. You will have to remember a lot of things. The house renting bills, shopping, cleaning and cooking will be in your charge.
However, there are also some disadvantages of off-campus living.
Your flat can cost you much more than a room in the dorm. Sometimes, you will have to pay additionally for the electricity, cable and Internet. Some flats are without any furniture, so, you will have to buy your own, moreover, all kitchens, cleaning and other supplies are also in your charge.
Quite possible that your flat will be far from your college or university. So, you will have to spend additional time and money for transportation to the college or university.
And finally. If you like isolation from other student, than off-campus is ok. But, if you want to participate in all social activities and find a lot of friends, then living off-campus you may feel detached from other student and social life in the university.
