subject: When To Purchase A New Car [print this page]

Not sure whether to buy a new or used car? It really depends on how you will use the vehicle. Brand new cars have many advantages such as low interest payments, rebates and other special deals. With the lousy economy and escalating car prices, however, getting a quality used car might be a good idea.

So which is better - a new or used car? If you like a second or third car for your son or daughter, a used car is advised. After all, you do not want your kids to destroy your brand new car! If you desire a status symbol, a brand new car is good, more so if you can fit the purchase in your budget. But if you are just seeking for a way to get around town, a used car is fine.

One benefit of a new car is that it has a warranty that protects your vehicle for a specific time. It is recommended that you lengthen that protection by purchasing an extended warranty. To save even more, consider buying a vehicle in the Fall. Car dealers accept the new models for next year at that time and you will see that the old models now have lower prices.

If you want a used car, you may want to purchase a certified pre-owned vehicle. These cars are available from dealers and manufacturers. Unlike other used cars, these vehicles are subject to a rigorous inspection and repair process. Most are priced to fit in your budget and you can feel confident driving a certified pre-owned car or truck.

To eliminate problems, be sure check the car to determine if it is a good buy. It is recommended that you invite a trusted mechanic to see the car before purchase. The mechanic can help you to determine the age of the car, how well-cared for the car is, how many parts have been altered and how many rusty parts or dents it has. Purchasing a used car that is a recent model will allow you to take advantage of the new safety features while allowing you to stay within your targeted budget.
