subject: Preparing Breakfasts Around The World [print this page]

From the "breakfast of champions" (a popular cold cereal in America) to KimChee (a fermented cabbage made in Korea), breakfasts around the world can feature a wide variety of food items. Taking into consideration what is grown in a country and its availability to the folks, compare the simple breakfast of boiled eggs, olives, cheeses and fava beans in the Middle East to an American full morning meal of bacon or sausage, fried eggs, hashed brown potatoes, toast or biscuits with butter, jam or jelly and coffee or tea.

All of the folks should begin their day with breakfast, especially children. They will learn better in school with a nutritional meal in their tummies. After a night of 'fasting'(not eating), to 'break' that 'fast' in as appealing way as possible is a good thing.

These two breakfasts are an example of a simple, easy and quick meal and one that is more complicated, demanding and time-intensive. That is not to say that both countries, and others worldwide, do not have both. It depends on the day of the week, in many cases, and how much time is available as to whether a quick meal is best or one that is prepared and eaten in a more leisurely fashion is desirable.

Referred by some as 'fast food', the street vendors offered its busy country folk a variety of foods that were quick and easy to prepare, carry and eat, and still have a modicum of health. This way of grabbing a bite, so to speak, is popular all over the world, it seems.

If one were to frequent the fast food stores in their cities and towns, one would find they could choose from healthy English muffin filled with protein in the form of egg and cheese, to the not-so-healthy fare of pancakes dripping with syrup and higher fat biscuits and honey. Not to mention in many places, fried this and fried that. Some shops can take the most healthiest of foods and coat it with stuff and deep fry the devil out of it. The menus abound, the choices are yours to make.

While all those deep fried goodies are quite tasty, they can wreak havoc on your health. Your 'bottom line' so to speak! We need to include a form of protein, such as egg in its many preparations, or a lean meat source. Carbohydrates, like toast or some fruit, can often be found to include a vegetable... Fill your omelet, sir?

If having a vast assortment of different types of food is not a negative temptation to you, a 'buffet' style meal for breakfast, in a restaurant, would provide one with a substantial or simple breakfast. Some countries make these available to the folks at reasonable prices. The buffet features breakfast meats, eggs prepared in many styles, and depending on your personal choices, very healthy fare. These establishments quite often make this available to people at one price, for all you care to eat.

In the African culture, as well as American and European and many others in fact, healthy recipes of omelets are often part of these breakfasts of choice, providing the needed protein, adding the local variety of vegetable, and cheese. They are quite filling and serve well to restart your engine for the day. Add a slice of toast or a pita or baguette, depending upon where you find yourself eating, and your day begins.
