subject: Refrigerators On Limelight [print this page] Since the advent of refrigerators, the movie industry has always taken advantage of this household equipment for the creepiness that it exudes especially when its old, tarnished, and busted. It has been an inspiration in many suspense/thriller movies comparable chainsaws and machetes. Aside from being the trusty thingamajig that keeps our milk from spoiling the next day, or chills the blueberry cheesecake your granny made, refrigerators are from time to time depicted as the ever faithful and perpetually silent witness of the murders that take place, most to the advantage of psycho-freaks and serial killers. Most movies show the fridge as the freeze box from hell, smeared with blood all over! The grand finale, the cherry on top, the frosting on cake or an accessory to the crime; as well as the tool of choice for hiding dead bodies of the victims of manslaughter. Imagine opening up a bloody fridge with a hand sticking out of its door!
Refrigerators are portrayed in movies as one of the goriest tools that man has ever invented and it is in this depiction where the fridge takes a little chance of stepping into the lime light, being appreciated, or at least being noticed. But sadly, this is one reputation that one would not want to have or being known for. Imagine how it feels like to be a refrigerator. Cool, literally, but being known for this isnt the way to go, especially when refrigerators have become indispensable tools for human life. Especially when all it did was to maintain the crispness of lettuce ready for the next batch of salad, or the freshness of that salmon your dad caught when he was out fly-fishing. Im sure your dad wont have the time curing fish, like people from long ago did, when the fridge gets broken. Im sure little Petunia would have one of those tantrums again when her favorite strawberry-flavored ice cream would end up in a soupy mess. Who wants to have runny ice cream for that matter? What more could be scarier than a toddler screaming at the top of her voice, rolling on the floor, banging what she can grab with those stubby hands when she doesnt get what she wants? Simple frozen ice cream.
The thing is, refrigerators have become part of our daily lives that we cannot live without, well, at least in many countries. It has become so common that it is one of the top priorities that every newlywed coupled needs to have in starting a family. Even if we take for granted the miracle that every fridge provides, we really have to owe it to the fridge. How else could we jump start our day without the benefit of a refrigerator? Well, I guess each time wed go for work after a broken fridge would really make us miserable by having spoiled, stale, or rotten. I guess thats why psycho-freaks and serial killers really have a fetish for the home appliance. They really take the whole fridge experience to the next level.
