subject: Obama Scholarships For Moms: There's Money To Improve Your Future [print this page]

There are some bright spots that should encourage you to look to the future even though the US economy is going through some tough time right now. The government is encouraging women to go back to college by offering Obama scholarships for moms. Mothers of all types have an opportunity to get a quality education. This will no doubt benefit their families and future employers.

Obama scholarships come from federal aid called Pell Grants. Obama and the government made some changes to these grants to make it easier for moms to go back to school. Pell Grants worth more than $5,000 can now be awarded. It's more than a $1,000 over the previous maximum for these grants. Pell Grants are designated for low-income students, so in many cases single mothers are eligible. For this reason, the government is encouraging moms to go back to school. Both moms who work and stay-at-home moms could benefit from having money to help them go to college.

There are other benefits to these grants to add extra incentive for moms to go to school. Large colleges and universities obviously attract many students. Many single mothers have been prevented from going to college because this wasn't an option for them. The Pell Grants, however, take this factor into account. If a stay-at-home mom wants to take courses online or a working mom wants to attend college part-time, the special Pell Grants make it possible. You can study what you want, anything from nursing to education to business. More important than the major is that now single moms have better opportunities to study.

An Obama scholarship may be the break a single mom needs to start on a different path. There are simple steps to look into applying for a scholarship. First, go online to fill out the FAFSA, the application for federal student aid. The application is free, and there's a lot of information about aid that is available to you. Also, remember that the American Opportunity Tax Credit program says that the first $4,000 to pay for your education is free. Consider this tax credit as well as the chance of getting a grant when weighing your options.

By having the chance to go to college to advance their education, single moms who are working or stay-at-home now have a tremendous opportunity. Government grants and free opportunities do two things. They help moms better care for their families, and they increase the money that moms can make as key members of the workforce. Obama scholarships for moms are a great opportunity for women to improve their future and the future of their family.
