subject: Dealing With The Problem With Typical Staffing Versus Virtual Staffing [print this page]

Talking about The Problem With Typical Staffing Versus Virtual Staffing has come a long way. There are so many concerns to give thought to, one would be Office Space for the corporate employee. There are political concerns when it comes to seating arrangements for the employees. Telephones and Computer Hardware are a necessity for the traditional office worker and maintenance must be applied when software licenses must be put in place for each and every employee. The total cost for all of these basic needs could be applied for other options when it comes to the virtual employee.

A telecommuter would never have a need to call in sick due to the fact that they have a medical or dental appointment as they are well equipped with other means to get the job done on a timely basis. Where the office worker would come into the office and try to get the job done correctly. During this time the well meaning employee would have spread their germs unintentionally but never the lest have done a good job at contaminating all other employees. This would cause a domino affect and the end result would be lost of time and productivity of all employees.

Work From Home employees have less interruptions as there is no good morning how was your weekend type conversations. There are no rumours to be spread, coffee or long lunch breaks. Flexibility is genuinely embraced and in turn the telecommuter is geared towards a more pro-active approach to getting the job done right the first time and on a timely manner.

A physical office takes much maintenance from ordering Office Supplies to Furniture. Xerox and Fax machines that require toners and cartridges are expensive and are a basic necessity to every home or physical office. Security and Janitorial Services would need to be retained.

Sick Leave for the physical office workers is a common abused issue. The employee does not have many other choices when it comes to taking time off whether it be due to illness or if a family member needs assistance. This would not come into play for the virtual staff as this has already been written into the overall plan.

Retention of a good employee as home bound workers are much more satisfied with their job than an office bound staff would be. The flexibility keeps a home worker more stress free and builds a sense of accomplishment and trust with their employer.

Productivity goes up as there is more time to attend to work matters on a timely basis. There are no commute times or reasons for arriving late. Work flow is a constant and frequently at a much higher rate. Studies have shown that a telecommuter works longer hours than a office bound worker.

Money matters are still of concern but not like The problem with Typical Staffing versus Virtual Staffing. Many of the traditional workers would give up their raise to become a telecommuter. The advantages of becoming a home bound worker is endless. The comforts of being at home and no more commuter hours. Whereas the office worker has to deal with the traffic and get up extra early to put on the proper attire for the office. The telecommuter can be wearing comfortable clothing and save on their clothing allowance.
