Finding a beautiful landscape and taking a picture of it does not mean that the photo will come out beautiful also. Someone needs to properly compose the picture and that will take time, patience, and understanding of some basic tips. When someone understands these tips then their landscape photos will probably begin to improve.

Like in other photography light plays a big part in landscape picture taking. Taking a landscape photo at sunrise or sunset would add dramatic flair to the picture. Timing the picture to be taken at one of these times can turn a normal picture into an outstanding one. The color and shadow change in the landscape at this time is very noticeable.

The way that a photographer designs the landscape shot is very important for how it will look also. Look for shapes, lines, colors, and textures that can make the image jump out at the viewer. Also, staying away from visual clutter is important so the picture does not look overly busy.

The rule of thirds will help the landscape appear balanced. By applying this rule the photographer aims to fill up the screen with two thirds of one horizon and one third of the other. By doing this the photo appears more appealing and grabs attention better.

On occasion try a telephoto lens for your nature landscape photos. Although this is not something to use in all cases there are times when using a telephoto lens will allow for the picture to focus on just one element and this automatically removes clutter from the frame. Of course using a wide angle lens on various landscapes will add a different touch as well because it widens the view. Test out different lenses to see what is most appealing for each various scene.

To add drama to the photo it is always good to add foreground interest to it. Standing close to a rock, tree, flowers or any other object will create this interest and add a surprising new depth to the photo. Focusing in on the close object then washing out the landscape in the back drop adds a different sort of depth than would normally apply.

Taking good nature landscape photography is something any individual can do if they follow these tips. By thinking about the picture and what someone would want it to look like adds to the success in capturing it. Utilizing different techniques and taking multiple pictures will help ensure an individual takes one that they will enjoy.
