Diabetes, a polygenic disease, is a very common and incurable disease suffered by millions of people world-wide each year. The characteristic of diabetes is abnormal high glucose levels in the blood which prevents the glucose to reach the necessary body cells where it needs to provide energy source for the body. Suffering from diabetes means that the body's glucose sugar is wasted instead of being turned into insulin.

The rate at which people get diagnosed with diabetes is very scary and alarming; currently in the United States, over 21 million people have diabetes. In the last ten years alone, the rate of annual diagnosed suffers has increased drastically, making the yearly number of percentage increase higher than anything we have seen before. Currently among the deadliest form of disease in the United States, diabetes is ranked sixth.

There are types 1 and 2 diabetes; insulin deficiency which is a condition that some people are born with is mostly associated with type 1 diabetes. Insulin allows glucose to enter the cell of the body which helps supply energy to the body among other things. Insulin deficiency means that the body is not making enough insulin; therefore we must administer insulin, preferably through injection to help the body function properly. Type 2 diabetic is a lot different in that it is acquired due to one's lifestyle. Lack of exercise, unhealthy diets, and being overweight are the known risk factors associated with becoming type 2 diabetic. Type 1 and type 2 can be controlled and properly managed but not cured - healthy diets and good exercise are part of the treatment options.

Management and controlling of diabetes is less hard than it used to be, nowadays better pharmaceuticals and natural herbal treatments for diabetes are being developed and used with good results in controlling diabetes all over the world. Better blood sugar monitors and improved diets plus lifestyle changes are making management and controlling of the disease much easier. Today, the danger of death as result of diabetes is considerably lowered as both pharmaceutical and herbal diabetic remedies are not only effective but have less or zero side effects.

Some ingredients found in most of the diabetic herbal remedies are very good in controlling blood glucose levels. Aloe Vera for example is known to help lower blood sugar levels. Remember that some of these herbs can be eaten raw or cooked and used as a standalone herb; others however, will be used only as extracts for formulating herbal remedies. Good example is fenugreek seeds which can be soaked overnight in a glass of water and drink the next day before breakfast. You can also use powdered fenugreek seed mixed with milk and drink it straight, grapefruits and cocoanuts are another example of the natural ingredients that can be eaten in their natural forms.

Zinc, as well as magnesium is known for their power to regulate blood sugar levels, and these are minerals we needed in the body to help for the production and storage of insulin. This is the reason why foods that contains zinc and magnesium are good for the body, because of the roles these minerals play in regulating blood sugar.

In general, diabetics should be very careful about what they eat. Sweet, sugar-rich foods, including white flour-based foods, are definitely to be avoided. Instead, diabetics should eat low-fat, high-fiber options, including lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Diabetes is a serious condition; hence professional medical advice should not be neglected in favor of herbal diabetic remedies. The doctor will provide specific guidelines and precautions relating to how work, activity, exercise, diet, and stress can affect a diabetic, and what can be done to stay as healthy as possible even with the presence of the disease.
