subject: Mirror Mirror On The Wall [print this page]

The ancient art of Feng Shui is said to bring prosperity into our home and office spaces. By arranging furniture and using space in a particular way, we can invite the flow of positive energy, or chi, into our lives.

Mirrors are called the aspirin of Feng Shui, as they can dramatically shift the flow of energy given the proper placement. They represent the water element, and are used to expand a space and draw in beneficial energy, bringing a sense of refreshment and calm.

In Feng Shui, a mirror should be placed on certain walls to bring good luck to certain areas of your life. Placing a large wall mirror on the East wall is auspicious for health and family related issues, while positioning it on the Southeast wall will bring wealth. A mirror on the Northern wall will have a positive effect on your career and path in life.

A mirror in the bedroom should never be placed opposite the bed so that you can see your head and upper body. There are two schools of thought as to why this is. The first suggests it is because at night your soul is supposed to leave your body when you sleep and when it leaves the first thing it sees is a reflection of itself. This causes it to be startled and this is what causes nightmares and a restless sleep. The second line of thinking is that when you sleep your body recharges itself with fresh chi and the negative chi leaves your body. If there is a mirror facing you the negative chi cannot leave you, and your body cannot therefore recharge properly.

Place mirrors around your home or office wisely and you can improve the flow of positive energy as well as giving a feeling of increased space to your interior.
