subject: Pittsburgh Steelers Tickets - Steelers Add New Fullback, Left Tackle [print this page] The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the full swing of training camp, but that hasn't stopped them from continuing to add new talent leading up to the start of the season. The team bolstered both sides of the ball with their two recent additions.
First, they claimed fullback Dwayne Wright off waivers. The second-year pro was waived by the Philadelphia Eagles. Wright entered the league in 2007 as the fourth-round draft pick of the Buffalo Bills. That season, he tallied 94 rushing yards and 17 receiving yards. He was released by the Bills in 2008. He also spent time with the New York Giants during the 2009 training camp. To create a place for him on the roster, the Steelers released rookie fullback Demetrius Taylor.
The team also added defensive tackle Flozell Adams, signing him to a two-year deal. Flozell has played his entire career with the Dallas Cowboys, who selected him in the second round of the 1998 NFL Draft. Since then, Adams has been named to the Pro Bowl five times, but the Cowboys released him earlier this year. Other than his rookie year, the only year that Adams didn't start every regular season game was in 2005, when he suffered an ACL injury. Adams was brought in to replace tackle Willie Colon, who is out for the season after suffering a torn Achilles' tendon in July.
The Steelers, like other teams, hold their training camp practices sacred, so it takes quite an event for the team to close down training camp. Such an event happened on Aug. 7 when the team's defensive coordinator, Dick LeBeau, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. The entire Steelers team took a bus to Ohio for the ceremony, showing the team's commitment to LeBeau. The defensive players actually helped petition to get LeBeau into the Hall of Fame by wearing throwbacks of LeBeau's jersey to a Hall of Fame game, according to USA Today.
LeBeau's NFL career began in 1959 with the Detroit Lions, where he remained until his career ended in 1972. During that time, he set many records and was invited to three Pro Bowls. The year after he retired, he started as a special teams coach for the Philadelphia Eagles. From there, he coached for Green Bay from 1976 to 1979 and the Cincinnati Bengals from 1980-1983. He was elevated to the role of the Bengals' defensive coordinator in 1984, a position he stayed in until 1991.
In 1992, LeBeau started his first stint with the Steelers, as the team's secondary coach from 1992 to 1994 and their defensive coordinator from 1995 to 1996. In 1997, he went back to the Bengals as their defensive coordinator and assistant head coach. He was the head coach of the Bengals from 2000 to 2002. He spent one season as the Buffalo Bills' assistant head coach in 2003. Since 2004, he has been the Steelers' defensive coordinator. Fans with Pitstburgh Steelers tickets are treated to seeing his signature defense live in action.
