subject: Time To Find A Career Change? [print this page]

There are two kinds of people looking to change careers - those who are voluntarily looking for change and those who are forced. The former variety is the lucky lot because they can time their exit from their existing career and search for greener pastures. The later, of course are victims of circumstances. There are instances where a person has been forced to change career midway in their life and have made a huge success out of it.

Who are the people who change their careers? The majority of these are not happy with their jobs due to several reasons. Though money may be playing a major role in decision making, there are a few who are looking for genuine change. Boredom is another reason why people look for a change in career. Whichever way you look at it, career change is not easy. One should ensure that a career change does not land one in a worse state than contemplated.

One should remember that grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. One of the compelling reasons for career change is a desire to do something which one had always wanted but were unable due to monetary conditions. Midway through their life some people realize that they are not enjoying their job and career. Probably, these are people who are achievers and feel stifled by their limited responsibilities in their present job. There are those who are extremely talented and creative but stuck in the daily rut. Money alone is therefore not the criteria for a career change.

On the other hand, those who lose their job or are fired, fall into a different category altogether. Finding oneself left high and dry after years of hard work is likely to leave one frustrated and sometimes angry at their former employers. Career change for these people is a necessity. Rather than start looking for a job immediately, one must take this as an opportunity to sit back and analyze their situation. Considering various options is important before plunging into the job market. Expert psychologists have suggested that a person is good at those jobs which he enjoys. If you are happy doing something, there I more likelihood that the job will be done properly. If there is no joy in doing a job there can't be success.

There are people who have realized their true potential after being fired. Introspection and self analysis can lead to better opportunities. It I possible that a person loses his or her job because of reasons beyond his control. The economic downtrend has led to large scale losses. When this happens, one should not blame and call oneself incompetent. This self pity may harm your confidence and affect your future. Self belief and faith will certainly lead you to a successful career change.

Whatever may be the circumstances, you must do what you love most. Creating opportunities, while looking for a career change is the best way to succeed. Your happiness and fulfillment are more important than immediate gratification through a high paying job.
