subject: The Green Side Of Vinyl Siding Cost [print this page]

During the 1950s, vinyl siding cost played a major role in the housing boom whenever the American Dream became a reality as family after family moved into their very own house.

A brand new exterior finish hit the market when vinyl siding was introduced. In keeping with American ingenuity, it provided an economical way to finish the houses that were filled almost the moment they were completed.

At that time, many companies still provided housing for employees and although one house seemed to look just like the next, vinyl siding was a factor which made it all economically possible. While there seemed to be an endless supply of natural resources, and the thought of going green was yet unborn, vinyl siding became a crucial substitute because it could be produced quickly and was cheaper than other exteriors.

In todays world, vinyl siding cost is still playing a major role as an exterior finish.

However, unlike its early prototype, todays vinyl siding is a result of continued research and extensive experimentation. It exists in hundreds of colors and a multitude of styles which mimic logs, stones, bricks, or cedar shakes and shingles. Homeowners no longer need be concerned about it becoming brittle or cracking and companies dont hesitate to issue warranties against fading colors or splitting surfaces.

Because of vinyl sidings long-lasting durability, its low maintenance, and the reasonable vinyl siding cost, it is considered a green product. Since it doesnt need to be frequently replaced, it doesnt add to landfills. It doesnt need to be painted or stained or sealed and fumes from those chemicals arent released into the atmosphere.

It can be pre-cut to specific lengths, so there is very little waste during the installation process and much of it can be recycled into other vinyl products. Installation doesnt require special dust masks or respirators because it isnt hazardous. It takes a minimal amount of fuel to transport it because of its light weight.

Improvements are constantly being added while vinyl siding cost remains reasonable. Making houses comfortable requires a great deal of energy and electricity for heating and cooling. The efficiency of how this is accomplished is a major concern of going green.

The industry is addressing that issue by manufacturing insulated vinyl siding which aids in a more energy-efficient building. Its products undergo frequent testing to assure the customer they are resistant to weather extremes such as high winds or heavy rains and hot sun or freezing weather. When properly installed, it should not hold moisture and will protect a house from the elements.

Its not susceptible to the decay, mildew, or molds that are common problems in damp areas, and insects are not a threat to its durability. Maintenance consists of occasionally washing it with a mild soap and water. When vinyl siding exteriors were introduced more than 50 years ago, who would have guessed vinyl siding cost would continue to be a major contender well into the 21st Century!
