Methamphetamine or what is well known as crystal meth on the streets is a highly addictive drug that is taken by people. The drug falls in the group of amphetamines. It was in demand in the 60s and 70s, but its use stopped temporarily in the 80s. Nonetheless, its use came back in high demand recently. There are many people who are purchasing the drug for use in their ways.

Crystal meth is manufactured in form of white crystals. Pure crystals have no smell while impure components have a strong ammonia smell as a result of having incomplete reacted reagents. Impure kind of the drug is manufactured by unscrupulous businessmen who are looking to make fast money illegally. These crystals can be crushed to form a powder. Crystal meth goes by names like; go-fast, meth and crank. The variety of meth that is taken by smoking is called either ice or glass on the streets.

Crystal meth has the ability to give the consumer an enhanced feeling of well being which is the main reason why most people take it. Once the drug gets into your body, it will catalyze the formation of dopamine and noreopinephrine which are both neurotransmitters. The quantity of the drug taken is, however, responsible for determining the feeling you will have. Small quantities of the drug eliminate hunger, fatigue and enhance your attention level. Exhilaration and ecstasy result after taking medium amounts of this drug. An overdose of the drug can make a person have bizarre, obsessed and paranoid characteristics. Large quantities of the drug may have some physical effects that include fast rate of heart beat, blood pressure and increased body temperature.

The legal manufacturers of this drug had medical value for it. They aimed at using the ability of this drug to hold down hunger as a temporary treatment for overweight people. Obese people were prescribed to take small amounts of the drug that would in turn reduce their eating appetite. Reduced eating habit would encourage the body to utilize stored body fats that would help the body to lose weight. Use of crystal meth have been currently been reduced as a result of addiction risks. Side effects that come as a result of addiction include self-destructive behavior, illusions, mood swings and paranoia.

Towards the end of 90s, crystal meth was reintroduced to the market. It was in high demand and a lot of people were using this drug. However, by the mid-2000s, there were enthusiasts who had already recognized the negative impact of this drug and are trying to stop its use. A strong campaign that was backed by the government sabotaged the transportation of ingredients used in the preparation of the drug to curb illegal manufacturer's activities.
