You may be happy that phones are getting smarter and more feature-packed every day, but they are also becoming more and more complicated. And while it may not be much of a bother for you, spare a thought about the elderly population, who need senior mobile phones, now more than ever.

It is often seen that the senior citizens get lost in the several levels of menu of the new-age phones; for which, such phones are difficult for them to handle. It is important for them to know how to use the phones properly; so that they can call for help in times of emergency and also keep in touch with family and friends in general.

Thankfully there are companies that manufacture uncomplicated phones for this section of the society. They highlight the essential basic features along with some extra functions yet keeping it very easy to understand and use.

Senior mobile phones have features like simple keypad to make receiving and making calls easy, receive and send messages and save phone numbers. There are certain phones that have some additional function like calendar, reminder options, alarm clock, in built flashlight and a few others. The manufacturers make sure that these phones are not packed with features and can be easily operated.

And senior mobile phones need not be feature packed. Very often, with age various diseases and natural degeneration sets in. The senses become weaker and motor skills are no longer sharp. That is why most seniors are not well equipped to use slick features that require proper hand-eye coordination, good vision, good hearing and nimble fingers.

What seniors need is the simple ability to talk to their loved ones whenever they want. The louder than usual speakers of these specially designed mobile phones allows them just that.

Some of these phones include a very important feature called emergency calling. There is a particular button on the phone that you need to program to a specific number. This feature helps you call the assigned number at the time of emergency.

More cell phone manufacturers should definitely come forward to help out the elderly with new designs and innovations to make their life easier. There is still a lot of room for improvement as far as senior mobile phones are concerned.
