subject: View Wayne Wilmoths Spectacular Landscapes In Altered States Of Reality [print this page] Florida-based photographer Wayne Wilmoth successfully introduces palpable dimension onto the otherwise compressed and level nature of photography. Wilmoth's vivid landscapes draw attention to a variety of scenery across the continental United States as well as the Caribbean. He presents his landscape views on mounted panels that are set at varying heights in order to intensify the work's sense of depth. In order to accomplish this, Wilmoth captures multiple views of a given scene and integrates all the individual photographs into the constructed installation. The installation itself is composed of picture panels mounted onto a backboard. In turn, Wilmoth hopes that the spectator will see the scene's original depth, rather than that captured by the lens of his camera.
Having started on a small scale, Wilmoth's landscapes have developed over time, expanding in size and subject. However, despite its large scale, the buoyant, "floating" quality of his work allows the spectator to feel at ease and take part in Wilmoth's scenic views.
