subject: What Are Your Choices When It Comes To Indoor Lighting [print this page]

Finding the best interior lighting option for your home can be a hassle. The number of choices has grown in recent years, now offering dozens of options. Trying to figure out which options are best for your home can be quite a challenge. Would you prefer track lighting or bulbs? Do you want halogen or fluorescent bulbs? Researching will help you find which option is the best for your home. Here are some things to help you in your research.

Which rooms do you plan on adding light to? Specific lighting varies from room to room. This is the first step you should make for when you sit down to figure out your indoor lighting needs. Write down what each room is going to be used for. A bedroom will require a different kind of lighting than for example your washroom, kitchen or a den. Once you know the exact purpose for each room, you can begin deciding on how to light them up. Making the list helps you stay on budget and on point. You won't have to worry about buying too much of one type of light and not enough of another.

What will the purpose be of each room? When you are figuring out how to illuminate a room, the room's main function will be a determining factor. An art studio, for example, will benefit from a totally different type of lighting than if the room were being used as a library or a home office. The things that will go on in the room will help you make a decision as to how to light it up. Using the same example: an artist's studio is going to need lots of bright white light so that the artist can see what he or she is doing. On the other hand, a home office will require a desk lamp and some type of lighting that will make it easy to see the room in its entirety (perhaps a ceiling light or floor lamp) and lights for others areas-possibly next to a reading chair.

Don't forget to leave room in your budget for redoing the lighting in your kitchen. The days when you just have to deal with incredibly bright overhead fluorescent bulbs in the kitchen are over. As time goes on, track lighting is getting more and more popular for kitchen lighting. You can light up your kitchen perfectly well with track lighting and they are easier for you to look at. They are also easy to install if you want to save money by installing the lights yourself. Why settle for ugly lights if you do not have to? There are just too many other interior lighting options to choose from.

There are a lot of different indoor lighting options that you can choose from when you want to light your home. Instead of going with the typical overhead light or simple reading lamps, try to think outside of the box. Of course you want your lighting to be function able, but remember to make it beautiful as well. Choosing lighting should be fun and your personality should shine through those choices. Affordably and creatively light your home by doing plenty of research before you buy.
