subject: Learn The Basics Of Fishing [print this page]

Many men and women throughout the world use fishing as a way to have fun. A lot of people also depend on fishing as a way to live and support their families. Whether you're in it for the fight, or just to spend a quiet day on the water, fishing is a wonderful way to get out and experience the outdoors. Your fish games may be meant for fun or survival, but either way it's often a challenge to succeed.

If you have a boat handy you will be able to access places you won't be able to get to from land, but sitting on land can perhaps be, just as fun as riding on the water. Either way there are many adventures to be had for new comers to the sport, or people who have been doing it for years.

Children and professionals alike, are often seen with their lines in the water. The long time anglers with their fancy poles and gear, and the children with their simple poles and bright, curious eyes, sometimes are spotted standing side by side in the same water, pursuing the exact same goal. Whether you're a big kid or small, knowing what kind of fish are where you're fishing can be very helpful in determining what kind of fish you're going to be able to catch.

A lot of different kinds of fish can be caught using the same kind of bait. Some fish are more difficult catching than others and take a little more knowledge and skill to lure in. Whether you're looking for fun and excitement, or perhaps to brag to your friends about the dangers you faced while out on the water, both can be easily attained.

The basic set up for all fishing consists of a fishing pole (open faced or closed faced generally), a tackle box for rigging and resetting your line, and some form of bait or lure. Poles are often a matter of preference, although many veteran anglers choose the open faced variety, there is no wrong choice. The gear and basic tools for rigging and resetting your line are often universal. However, bait and lures can be quite specific to what fish they are designed or used to attract. Many baits and lures need to be presented in a specific way to be effective in attracting the fish they are intended to help catch. Knowing your desired fish and what they eat, is a great bit of knowledge to possess.

If you have the equipment all set, then you're ready to be on your way. The weather and season will have a lot to do with the type of fish you're able to catch after you find the spot you're going to set up in.

If your trip is to find food, that's great, but a lot of people choose to catch and release. Taking a picture of your catch is a good way to capture the moment to share with your friends, while still allowing the fish you catch to live and go on to produce more fish to pursue in the future. Make sure you follow whatever rules are in place for your particular area. There are often certain limits and restrictions placed on how many fish you can catch, what kind and what time of the year this is allowed.

The more you practice and learn, the better you will become. There's always an element of luck involved in fishing, but the more you do it the more know how you will possess, making it easier and easier to catch the big ones. Enjoying fish games with friends and family is a great way to spend time with each other and maybe even grow a little closer while having some fun.
