subject: A Short Discussion On Types Of Horse Saddle [print this page]

When riding or training a horse, the saddle used can make all the difference in the world. There are saddles that are specially made not only for comfort but for special uses. For instance, if you are training your horse to jump, you would want to make sure the saddle used on that horse is made to keep you in the saddle and keep the horse comfortable. The difference in types of horse saddle is in the cut and how the rider is sitting when in the saddle.

There are a couple saddles that are considered multi-purpose and one of them is the English saddle. This one can be used for riding and showing on flat terrains. It is also okay to jump fences or logs from time to time in this type, but to really get into jumping; you will need a different type.

The dressage saddle allows more control over the horse. This is a great type to use if you are training the animal to make precision turns and cuts and it is great to use during barrel racing or other competitions that have those kinds of turns. The deep cuts in the saddle keep the rider close and in command.

If you are planning on jumping fences, logs or other obstacles, the forward seat English saddle is probably the one you need to use at that time. It is also known as the jumping saddle because it allows you to stay slightly forward on the animal and is comfortable while you are in the two point position.

The western saddle is often used during the training of the horse and the rider. It is possibly the most used type of saddle because of the comfort and stability.

When doing anything on horse back, it is important to use the correct types of horse saddle. It is also important that the saddle be put on the horse correctly to insure that the saddle will not slip during riding or training.
