subject: Progress Endowed The Robots With Bad Habits Of Humans [print this page]

Technical progress is developing so fast nowadays that some machines often start resembling humans. The authors of the newest robots may teach them the habits, characteristic of human beings. And these habits are not always good from the point of view of the human moral.

Cheating and Telling Lies

Sara Mitri, Laurent Keller and Dario Floreano, American evolutionists, used the robots to model the evolution process. They made a platform with two circle conventional zones: food and poison. Robots were to stay in the first zone and away from the second one as long as possible. The programs of the most efficient robots were compiled together and put into other robots. The scientists aerated 500 generations of robots which looked for the food more and more efficiently. The robots only signal of communication was the blue light that signaled about the presence of food. When the robots got the control of the signal, they began to put it down near the food and up near the poison in the 52nd generation. Next generations reacted to the blue light less intensively too.

Boozing

The engineers of Willow Garage have created PR2, a robot, capable of doing a lot of simple tasks. It plays billiard, performs simple music on the piano and is capable of some other actions. It can bring beer from a fridge. It opens the fridge, finds the sorts of beer it was asked to bring, takes the number of bottles it was programmed to take and gives each to the person that wanted that sort of beer.

Hypocrisy

Robots have no emotions. However, Hiroshi Ishiguro of the University of Osaka made a robot that can imitate various emotions. Geminoid-F looks like a woman. Its face is made of gum. The mechanisms that make it move can form any shade of emotions on the face of the robot.
