subject: Internet Marketing Choose The Company Or The Mentor? [print this page]

If you are investigating the possibility of starting an online business, it is almost impossible not to notice all of the various different websites telling you what you are supposed to be doing. The brand new way to Internet riches. They are all talking about Attraction Marketing as the best way to build a business.

Well they are right, Attraction Marketing is a fantastic method of building a business online. Attraction Marketing, for those who do not already know, is when you brand yourself as the person to do business in your particular field. You do this by gaining knowledge and passing it onto anyone who is looking to develop a business in the same field as yourself. In exchange for this knowledge you simple acquire the email address of the recipient who goes on to be a customer.

Once the marketer has this information, a carefully constructed email marketing plan is put in place leading the customer to the source of more information or products until a bond is formed between the customer and the marketer. Once this is established the marketer will recommend products to the customer in the hope that some will buy the product and make the marketer money or, and this is the ultimate aim, the customer will join the markers business and become a marketer themselves.

This is in essence what Attraction Marketing is. No fluff or fancy dressing it up, it is designed to earn money for the marketer. I am not for one moment saying there is anything wrong in this because I do not for one minute believe that there is. It is a skill that should be rewarded and those that can teach others how to do it effectively are rightly held in high regard in the Internet Marketing industry.

My problem is, and it is not really a problem, but how do people searching for a new way of earning some extra cash know where to go. It is the age old problem of which business to get involved in.

Well I would like to say that, in the humble opinion of the author, it does not really matter which business the prospect, for want of a better word, actually joins.

Please let me qualify that very slightly. Of course there should be some due diligence, as it is known, and the prospect should make sure of certain things before they jump in.

You need to make sure that the business actually exists rather than be some shell company that is a total scam. Use the internet to make sure the business is established and has a real office somewhere in the real world and not just cyberspace. See if you can find other people who are dealing with the company and are being successful. Really just be sensible.

You should ensure that you are happy with the company's products and philosophy as you will, hopefully, be involved with them for some time.

Find a company that will teach you all about Attraction Marketing. Most businesses have training on their products but you will need to know how to use the internet to sell them so you do not need to hassle your friends and families.

Once the prospect has decided on the company they with to do business with, and as I say, provided the three points above are adhered to it doesn't really matter which. The most important thing to do is to decide WHO they want to work with. This will also tie in with the Marketing training I spoke of in the previous paragraph.

The who part of the equation, is for me, far more important than the company. They need to choose a mentor. Some one who will impart their knowledge of how to implement the Attraction Marketing we spoke of earlier. A mentor can guide them and keep them motivated over the first few months while the marketing system is put into place.

So what should they look for in a Mentor?

They should not be fooled by anyone who says that this is easy or that they will be earning extremely large amounts of money over the first few months. In my experience this does not happen very often. They need to look for someone who they believe they can get on with and that has sufficient knowledge. This can be checked by exploring the websites of the prospective mentors and seeing if the information on the site is showing them what to do. Do they have any articles written, are they able to show you what you need.

It is vital that you speak to your potential Mentor either face to face or via telephone or Skype. You will need to speak quite a lot during the first few months of you business, so it is important that you feel comfortable speaking to each other. You will need all the encouragement that your Mentor can give you when the initial enthusiasm has died down and you wait for the business to develop into profit. This is the time that most people give up and say it does not work but with the help of your Mentor you can get through this period to the other side where the hard work will pay off.

If you remember, one of the things I said that you should look for in the company that you chose was Attraction Marketing training. The reason for saying this was as a back up for choosing the wrong Mentor. There are people who will promise you the earth and then, when you have joined their business, they disappear never to be heard of again, at least not by you. At least if there is some training involved in your company then you can continue to work on your business. It is really important to consider this when selecting you business.

Remember it is your responsibility to choose who you work with and what company you go into business with. Building an Internet Business is a difficult task. Ninety seven percent of people who try do not succeed. They do not put in the time and effort on a consistent basis that is needed to make it work. They give up all too easily when things seem to be going no where. It takes time to build enough presence on the internet to have success. Just look at those that are successful, how long have they been involved. Most for 2 or 3 years at least, you rarely see people who have been involved six months or so, that is because they quit around this time. Keep moving forwards and keep your eye on the prize and it will work for you too.
