subject: How To Choose The Right B School? [print this page]

All MBA students face the scary task of choosing the right b school. Many students look at shiny brochures and extravagant remuneration figures to decide which b schools they should apply to! Do not be a victim to the marketing gimmicks of business schools and take a learned decision when you are selecting the right MBA College for yourself.

If you want to succeed then follow this: Success is simple. Do what's right, the right way, at the right time. Arnold H. Glasow

It is agreeable that B Schools are charging very high fees these days. But we all know that the government and even the banks have the facility of Education loan which you can repay after you start earning. But keep one thing in mind, when you are choosing a B School dont judge the school with its fees. I mean if the fees are the highest that does not mean its the best. Even low fees school could be among the best. Make a thoughtful decision, because this decision can either make your career or spoil your career. The decision is then yours. You will do your MBA only once. If you make a wrong decision there is no point looking back. You need to keep a lot of things and factors in mind when making the final decision.

There are many factors that make it the best a B-school. Some of the important ones that you need to keep in mind when making your choice are:

You need to make sure that the institute provides trustworthy placements. Dont be in a rush for higher salary. Look also at the number, nature, reputation and variety of companies that come to institute for campus placements. This might help you incase you wish to specialize in a particular stream and make your career in that particular field (e.g. marketing or finance), then there should be a satisfactory number of reputed companies in that field that recruit from campus. Placement professionals are the best authority on whether your MBA career aspirations will be satisfied at their schools.

Confirm whether the Business school has well-known full-time qualified faculties. Ask the people in the admission department about faculty availability for students. Try to find out if the faculty that the institute/Business school claims to have are actually full-time ones and not mere visiting faculty who may not be available at all times for the students.

Student culture is also an important consideration. You will learn as much from your fellow students as you will from faculty members, because your classmates will represent a wide variety of work and cultural backgrounds. Participation in student-run organizations, community programs, and international field trips can greatly enhance your experience.

Try to get as much information you can get on the internships and the live projects that students have done in the past so that you get top know of the company profile and the knowledge that they gain form the reputed companies. These projects will help you in the final placement as well.

Good management institutes should offer the basic infrastructure in place to aid in spreading knowledge and make certain that students are well-versed in modern- day management tools. A well equipped computer centre, libraries, projectors, seminar rooms for guest lectures etc are a must. The best way to know more is to find out things yourself rather than believing over what you heard or saw in the newspapers. You should rather visit the college or speak to past students to get a clear picture of everything.

Pull out information about the guest lectures that are provided in the college and that you might be interested to join. The quality and lectures and internships will give you an idea even on the placement opportunities offered to the students. It is also important to know if the guest faculties are known or they are just new in the field, because these guest lectures will give you actual knowledge about the industry.

Your one right decision, taken at the right time will bring you to the right place.
