subject: Muse Tickets - Muse Takes Home Moonman For Best Special Effects [print this page] Lady Gaga may have shattered records when she took home eight Moonmen from the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 12, but that doesn't mean Muse went home empty-handed. The British band was nominated in the Best Rock Video and Best Special Effects categories, and beat out Dan Black's "Symphonies," Eminem's "Not Afraid," Green Day's "21st Century Breakdown" and Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" in the latter category.
30 Seconds to Mars took home the Moonman for Best Rock Video, but Muse still has a chance to take home more awards at the upcoming MTV Europe Music Awards, which will be held in November. Muse scored nominations for Best Rock, Best Live Act and Best World Stage Performance. Not bad! Muse's official website reports that the band also earned a pair of nominations for the Live UK Music Business Awards, for Spectacle of the Year (for their Glastonbury gig) ad Best Festival Performance (for their show at T in the Park).
Aside from awards show lists, Muse also made NME.com's Best Cover Version of All Time list. The band's rendition of Nina Simone's "Feeling Good" topped the list, followed by the Beatles' "Twist and Shout," Johnny Cash's "Hurt," Jimi Hendrix's "Hey Joe," Nirvana's "Where Did You Sleep Last Night," The Clash's "I Fought the Law," Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah," Jimi Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower," Marvin Gaye's "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" and The White Stripes' "I Just Don't Know What to Do with Myself."
In addition to making award show appearances, Muse frontman Matthew Bellamy & Co. also have a tour to attend to this fall! The trio-rounded out by Chris Wolstenholme and Dominic Howard-is on the road in support of 2009's The Resistance. Muse tickets are currently available to see the band perform in cities like Denver, Colo.; Minneapolis, Minn.; Milwaukee, Wis.; Oklahoma City, Okla.; Cincinnati, Ohio; Uniondale, N.Y.; Newark, N.J. and more through late October. Muse fans will be snatching up tickets to see the band in North America, as they spent most of the summer touring abroad.
Muse will also perform at the 2010 edition of Austin City Limits and New Orleans' Voodoo Music Experience this fall. ACL will be held in Austin's Zilker Park on Oct. 9 and feature performances by Vampire Weekend, LCD Soundsystem, Norah Jones, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes and more, while Voodoo Music Experience will be held in the Big Easy during Halloween weekend (Oct. 29-31) and feature bands like MGMT, My Morning Jacket, Weezer, Hot Chip and others.
As busy as Matthew Bellamy's schedule is as the lead singer of Muse, the British rocker apparently has time to teach guitar lessons! NME.com reports that Bellamy has been teaching actor Kurt Russell how to strum a guitar. So what gives? Russell is the longtime love of Goldie Hawn, who is the mother of Bellamy's girlfriend Kate Hudson. "Both Kurt and Goldie think really highly of him. They're now talking about a holiday in Hawaii when their schedules allow," says a source.
