It is important to note that though although this condition occurs more frequently in women with multiple sexual partners, it has not been identified as a sexually transmitted disease and cannot be transferred to a sexual partner since it is mainly a result of excess growth of normal bacteria in the vagina. This means that even women with little to no sexual activity can develop the condition.
