subject: Friday Celebration - Staying In Control Of Your Calories [print this page]

Fridays are my favorite day of the week because you have a nice break to look forward to. I usually find myself celebrating by relaxing my good eating habits.

I started a new practice to curb my emotional eating on Friday's. Now I still track my carbs, calories, protein and fat but I change up my food choices.

Monday thru Thursday tend to be the same snack foods like grapes and oatmeal and lunch tends to be an Amy's microwave meal.

On Friday I allow myself an egg sandwich, a Clif bar and pizza. As long as I don't go over my four tracking categories it's ok. I get to eat my favorite foods and not feel guilty.

I also plan my one splurge item for the weekend on Friday. It gives me something to reward myself with but since I am planning for it, I can stay within my calorie goal.

My advice to you is don't let splurges sneak up on you. In one meal you can overeat all the calories you avoided for the entire week. A whole week's worth of being careful can go out the window.

One meal out could be an extra 1,000 - 2,000 calories easily. That would be like eating 200 extra calories every day of the week that you just finished.

Remember you have to burn 3500 calories more than you ate in order to lose a pound. What does 2,000 extra calories do to your weight management plan>

So yes, reward yourself and celebrate the weekend but stay mindful. Planning allows you freedom, it doesn't take it away. Enjoy the weekend.
