subject: Sharepoint Introduction And Functions [print this page]

Sharing with this product is not difficult at all. Well, even the name tells you that it's the core point of the software. It is made with the idea of facilitating and making collaboration and sharing a lot more easier. If you need help with developing a custom solution using this product suite, the rest of this article will teach you more.

The way this achieves that is by integrating itself into other Microsoft and Windows applications. That way, it becomes a framework around your current work environment. For example, it add buttons, menus and tool bars inside the MS Office suite. So, if you want to share a document with somebody else, you just press the appropriate button inside of MS Word.

You choose the user that you want to share the document with as you press the users button on the toolbar. Then, you can choose to add a task for them, regarding the document. As an example, you are able to choose to either approve or reject the document. So, now this product suite sends an email to the user, and you get notified when they open the mentioned document. Then they either approve or reject the document. You get emailed about that decision and about any other comments that they have.

If you view the document in Word after the approval (or rejection), you will be able see their notes and comments exactly in the document, and this is what makes SharePoint the ideal platform for collaboration. Since I used the example of Word and approval/rejection, don't assume that the mentioned is the extent of its collaboration abilities.

If you decide to design your custom work flows using the SP designer, you will see that there are millions of possible combinations in reality. I suggest that you just hire a product consultant. That way, this software will be implemented according to your needs and preferences.
